Rate
To tap the tremendous potential of the land to address societal challenges, and build on its successes in increasing the pace, quality and permanence of land conservation in America, the Land Trust Alliance has set four strategic conservation goals for 2018- 2022, one of which is to increase the rate of land conservation, not only in rural and suburban areas but also in urban communities that have not been the traditional focus of the land trust community.
In turbulent political times and with many competing priorities, even maintaining the current rate of land conservation will be a challenge; increasing the rate will require mobilizing new and diverse resources and communities.
The Alliance and our partners will be successful if we can:
- Increase land conservation activity and acreage conserved by land trusts each year.
- Generate expanded funding for land conservation and stewardship through state and local ballot measures and federal appropriations (e.g., the federal Farm Bill, the Land and Water Conservation Fund).
- Leverage funding from ecosystem services markets for land conservation and stewardship.
- Defend federal tax incentives for private land conservation and ensure they remain accessible and workable for land trusts.
