If you care about the land, water and environment, there is a place for you in our exciting nationwide community of land trusts, conservation groups, government agencies, landowners and professionals all committed to saving the special places people need and love. We invite you to join our mission to ensure American children have safe, natural spaces to play in, farms and ranches continue to produce food, critical habitat and endangered species are protected, and more communities enjoy clean air and water.

Professional Affiliate
Do you or your company or firm work with land trusts to help them achieve their mission and accelerate their conservation impact? Have you and your team dedicated your careers — your lives — to preserving what makes communities special? Are you a consultant, attorney, appraiser, realtor, accountant, financial advisor, surveyor or other professional who wants to connect with land trusts and other conservation organizations throughout the United States and beyond? Ready to expand your network? Join the Alliance today as a Professional Affiliate.
As a Professional Affiliate, you can stay up-to-date with the land trust community and grow your professional network by being listed on Find an Expert, the Alliance’s online directory of conservation professionals who support land conservation and the land trust community.
You have a choice of two levels:
- Professional Affiliate-Premium: Professional Affiliate-Premium is an enhanced program for those Affiliates who want to increase their visibility and business. Professional-Premium Affiliates enjoy preferential placement and enhanced listing on Find an Expert, expanded registration discount for Rally, and other exclusive discounts.
- Professional Affiliate-Standard: You will enjoy access to benefits that will increase your network and grant you access to educational resources including the Learning Center. You will also receive discount registration for networking events, a listing on Find an Expert, two Rally vouchers and other services.
Attorneys, consultants, lawyers, appraisers, surveyors, auditors, financial advisors, technology developers, donor management vendors and firms involved with human resource management, organizational development, strategic planning, communications and finance management are welcome to join the Alliance as an Affiliate. Please note that joining the Affiliate Program is not limited to these types of professions.
Eligibility for Professional Affiliates
To be eligible as a Professional Affiliate, you or your company or firm must meet the following criteria:
- You or your company or firm is a for-profit entity or a nonprofit consulting agency that supports conservation or assists land trusts.
- You or your company or firm affirms that it is not a land trust, conservancy, state association or a local, municipal or state government agency that acquires or stewards land.
In addition, joining the Alliance is contingent on the following:
- Annual dues are based on the number of professional staff devoted to your company’s conservation practice and the Affiliate level you prefer.
- You or your company or firm must affirm that you adheres to the highest ethical standards as reflected in Land Trust Standards and Practices and by executing our Affiliate attestation.

Government Affiliate
State and local governments are on the front-line of conservation today, accomplishing a tremendous amount. We know you work hard and fast, and like all of us could sometimes use a little help to make your job easier. Would you like up-to-date best practices, sample easements and other key documents, access to experts in conservation and the premier online repository of legal opinions on conservation? Do you want to join a vibrant community of land conservationists dedicated to preserving what makes our country so special?
Becoming a Government Affiliate will allow your agency to tap into the nation’s foremost source of timely information on land conservation — and the nation’s most dynamic network of conservation professionals. In addition, your agency will be showcased on the Find an Expert listing, the Alliance’s online directory of conservation professionals and organizations who support land conservation.
Eligibility for Government Affiliates
To be eligible for Government Affiliates, your agency must meet the following criteria:
- You are a local, municipal, regional or state government agency.
- Your agency is not a land trust, conservancy or nonprofit that acquires or stewards land, or a government agency with an independent board that undertakes the acquisition and/or stewardship of land or easements or assists in the stewardship of lands or easements for other agencies.
In addition, joining the Alliance is contingent on the following:
- Annual dues are based on your annual expenses that relate to the general function of your agency. (see below for “how to calculate my dues” information).
- Your agency must affirm that it adheres to the highest ethical standards as reflected in Land Trust Standards and Practices and by executing our Affiliate attestation.
Government programs at every level, including local, municipal, city-wide, multi-district, township, regional, state, environmental and other jurisdictions are welcome to join the Alliance as a Government Affiliate. Programs, departments and branches within a government agency are also welcome to join as their own Affiliate. Please note that joining the Affiliate Program is not limited to these types of governmental entities.

How do I calculate my dues? For dues purposes, your operating expenses include annual expenses that relate to the general function of your agency. These expenses include all personnel salaries and compensations, plus all annual operational costs, including rent, postage, printing, routine programming expenditures, management and fundraising expenses. Expenditures that are not part of the routine budget and other non-recurring costs such as one-time grant-funded projects, investments and capital development should be excluded when calculating dues.
If your agency has a conservation department, commission or program that is the primary beneficiary and sole user of the Affiliate program, then the operating expenses may reflect the general function of that conservation department, commission or program, and not the entire agency.

Nonprofit Affiliate
Are you interested in increasing your conservation impact, connecting with experts and others in the field, or do you simply want tools and resources to make your job easier? Joining the Land Trust Alliance allows your nonprofit to collaborate directly with the land trust community and access a multitude of programs and direct services for your entire team! Your nonprofit will be showcased on the Find an Expert listing, the Alliance’s online directory of conservation professionals and organizations who support land conservation.
If you are a nature center, trail group, park association, university, museum, or other type of nonprofit that works with land trusts or engages in conservation activities then joining the Land Trust Alliance can increase your impact.
Museums, urban planning groups, schools or universities, community engagement, environmental groups, trail associations, community gardens, watershed groups, land or coastal restoration associations are all welcome to join the Alliance as a Nonprofit Affiliate. Please note that joining the Affiliate Program is not limited to these types of nonprofits.
Eligibility for a Nonprofit Affiliate
To be eligible as a Nonprofit Affiliate, your organization must meet the following criteria:
- Your organization is a 501(c) nonprofit and can provide proof of its tax-exempt status with a Form 990 or letter of intent from the IRS submitted with your application.
- Your organization is not a land trust or conservancy that acquires/stewards land, or a government agency, state land trust association or professional business.
In addition, joining the Alliance is contingent on the following:
- Annual dues are based on annual expenses that relate to the general function of your nonprofit (see below for “how to calculate my dues” information).
- Your organization must affirm that it adheres to the highest ethical standards as reflected in Land Trust Standards and Practices and executing our Affiliate attestation.

Please note that the Affiliate benefits will only apply to that one conservation program or office and will not extend to the entire nonprofit.

State Association Affiliate
The Land Trust Alliance values the vital role state land trust associations play in advancing conservation, and we would like to welcome all associations to join as State Association Affiliate. State Association Affiliates have access to the same benefits as our Nonprofit and Government Affiliates.If you are a nature center, trail group, park association, university, museum, or other type of nonprofit that works with land trusts or engages in conservation activities then joining the Land Trust Alliance can increase your impact.
Eligibility for a State Association Affiliate
To be eligible as a State Association Affiliate, your organization must meet the following criteria:

Your organization affirms that it is a state land trust association that supports land trusts as its primary mission and that we do not hold or manage/steward land or conservation easements.
- Your organization is not a land trust or conservancy that acquires/stewards land, or a government agency, or professional business.
In addition, joining the Alliance is contingent on the following:
- Annual dues are based on your organization’s reported operating expenses.
- Your organization must affirm that it adheres to the highest ethical standards as reflected in Land Trust Standards and Practices and executing our Affiliate attestation.
Attestation Confirmation
All Alliance Affiliates are required to check the attestation confirmation and must commit to the highest ethical standards as reflected in Land Trust Standards and Practices. The success of land conservation depends upon the shared commitment to ethical conduct by everyone affiliated with the Land Trust Alliance.
