New England
New England is the birthplace of private land conservation, and the Land Trust Alliance itself started its journey here in 1982. Small in area (slightly larger than Washington State), this six-state region boasts the largest number of member land trusts: 255 strong. New England is diverse in both its people and geography. The coastal plains of southern New England, the forests, peaks, and rolling hills of the northern Appalachian region and the Atlantic Ocean coastline provide habitat for wildlife, working farms and forests, clean drinking water, and important recreational opportunities and inspirational beauty for the numerous people living here.
