POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Accountant is part of a small team of accounting professionals responsible for all facets of the accounting process for the organization.
The Senior Accountant processes journal entries and performs account analysis, bank reconciliations, and various daily and monthly accounting tasks. The Senior Accountant serves as a key resource to program staff in the correct processing of financial transactions, prepares financial reports and schedules and answers questions about financial transactions.
The Senior Accountant reports to the Accounting Manager. The position supervises no staff but may be called upon to lead or direct the work of others on occasion.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Senior Accountant has day-to-day responsibility for a variety of general accounting duties and will be cross trained in most departmental functions.
The individual will be expected to work closely and collaboratively with other team members within Finance & Accounting and with program staff across the organization to ensure the timely and accurate processing of financial transactions in the most effective and efficient manner possible. Specific duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Ensure the timely and accurate deposit and recording of cash receipts.
- Serve as the organization’s lead resource in the proper accounting for gifts, pledges, and other revenue transactions.
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations and analysis of assigned general ledger accounts.
- Prepare journal entries for a wide variety of transactions, applying relevant GAAP and internal procedures to the situation at hand.
- Assist in the monthly closing of the accounting books and prepare financial reports.
- Work closely with the Development department to ensure an efficient and accurate cash receipting process for the Fund’s contribution revenue.
- Serve as a resource to program staff on finance and accounting matters, such as programmatic revenue recognition, treatment of conditional and unconditional pledges and contributions, annual budget preparation, and other similar topics. Conservation Fund’s mission and values.
