Congress poised to make tax incentive permanent
Congressional leaders have announced a broad, year-end deal that will make permanent the enhanced incentive for donations of conservation easements! Additionally, the deal includes a brief but welcome reauthorization of the Land and Water Conservation Fund — setting the stage for important legislative action next year.
House leaders publicly unveiled the deal near midnight Eastern time Tuesday, starting a countdown clock that positions the chamber for a vote as early as Thursday.
So far, House Democrats have not said whether they will support the tax part of the tax and spending deal. It appears that Republican leaders believe it will pass with or without Democratic votes, and that they have assurances from both the White House and Senate Democrats that they will support it.
Stay tuned for updates and a potential call for last-minute outreach to your congressperson!
The success of this initiative and all of the programs the Land Trust Alliance delivers are made possible by support of our many partners, funders and donors — but most of all, by your willingness to speak out on behalf of conservation.
