Ambassador of the Year: Alicia Reban
For nearly 20 years Alicia Reban has been dedicated to preserving Nevada’s open spaces.
As executive director of the Nevada Land Trust, Alicia took the Land Trust Alliance Ambassador pledge at a time when her state’s senior senator, U.S. Sen. Harry Reid, was majority leader. She also cultivated relationships with others in the Nevada delegation, including Sen. Dean Heller, a Republican who now is the lead sponsor of the Conservation Easement Incentive Act (S. 330).
Alicia received the 2015 Ambassador of the Year award during Rally 2015 in Sacramento, Calif. In accepting the award, Alicia said this work is an important component of land conservation.
“We come to or are called to this work through a deep-seated desire and passion to make a difference in our communities and in the health and well-being of our planet,” she said. “Advocacy is a conversation. It’s a conversation and relationship with decision makers and partners. It’s about stepping beyond what is possible now — and changing the arena in which we do our work.
“Do not underestimate the power of your stories and successes to those who represent you at all levels of our government and communities,” she said. “Our stories have the power to reach across boundaries, jurisdictions, political parties, and geographies, economies — it is our love of land and our collective ability to connect to that common thread in all people — that will ultimately lead us into the future we hope for and work for.”
Congratulations, Alicia!
