Most donors of conservation easements are not professional conservationists. They may have limited understanding of conservation priorities and legal requirements for conservation easements and a unique perspective as landowners towards conservation. It is essential that land trusts understand and respect this perspective in order to identify their joint interests and goals and successfully communicate with landowners to close a deal. Using real life examples, this webinar will explore best practices in communication and negotiation so land trust practitioners can avoid common pitfalls that lead to failed projects, wasted resources and damaged relationships. As a special bonus, participants will receive tips on reaching out to landowners unfamiliar with the land trust.
