A One-Day Standards and Practices Curriculum Seminar
Tuesday, July 21, 2009
9:30am - 5:00pm
Maumee Bay Resort & Conference Center
Maumee Bay State Park, Ohio

The land you save today is the land you will protect tomorrow . . . and the day after that . . . and the day after that . . . .

Have you been struggling with figuring out how much it will cost your land trust to manage its land and conservation easements for the long haul? Do you know how to arrive at a realistic figure? Although tricky, it is essential for land trusts to calculate the costs of stewardship and then raise the funds necessary to ensure that the promises made today will be kept in the future. Come join your colleagues to learn how to make more informed decisions about determining stewardship costs and managing your land trust's financial assets and dedicated funds.

For this training, we've once again called on Jane Ellen Hamilton, who taught our popular Determining Stewardship Costs & Raising and Managing Dedicated Funds seminar in Wisconsin last October. Jane Ellen will share her knowledge and experience to teach you how to:

Calculate the full stewardship costs of conservation easement and fee land transactions

Determine present and/or anticipated future staff costs

Evaluate potential enforcement and easement defense costs for conservation easements

Assess costs of necessary legal or technical advice

Understand methods of raising stewardship funds

Differentiate types of dedicated funds, including stewardship endowments and legal defense funds

Develop policies and procedures to manage endowments and dedicated funds

There are no pre-requisites for this seminar, and it is intended for all levels.

Cost:

Because of generous support from the Charles Steward Mott Foundation, this seminar is being offered for $75 per person to Land Trust Alliance members, or $95 per person to non-members.

Each participant will receive a copy of the Land Trust Alliance's Determining Stewardship Costs & Raising and Managing Dedicated Funds curriculum workbook to take home and use as a reference and a model for implementing important aspects of the topics that will be covered in this seminar.
