The USFWS is the principal Federal agency that provides information to the public on the extent and status of the nation's wetlands. The agency has developed a series of topical maps to show wetlands and deepwater habitats. This geospatial information is used by Federal, State, and local agencies, academic institutions, and private industry for management, research, policy development, education and planning activities. National Wetlands Inventory digital data can be viewed and downloaded through several methods.

Coastal Lidar

Coastal Lidar or elevation is a primary data consideration for management activities in the coastal zone, including conservation. Elevation data can be examined in relation to other factors and climate change stressors, such as sea level rise, storm inundation, lake-level drops, or drought across the landscape and seascape, illuminating critical areas that may need to be protected or conserved. Land cover maps depict where and how much of a region is covered by forests, wetlands, development, and other natural and man-made features. Documenting changes in the landscape can alert communities to emerging trends, information that is useful when predicting and assessing cumulative impacts in the light of climate stressors, such as sea level rise.
