Boston Grants Initiative(MA)
Deadline: January 15, 2009
The New England Grassroots Environment Fund (NEGEF) Boston Grants Initiative invites applicants working at a grassroots level on environmental health, environmental justice and greenspace initiatives in Boston, Cambridge, Chelsea or Somerville. They must also demonstrate a significant element of volunteer involvement in their programs. Grant awards range from $500 to $10,000.

New England Grassroots Environment Fund (CT, ME, MA, NH, VT, RI)
Deadline: January 15, May 1, and September 15
Applicants for the fund's Small Grants Program must be working at the grassroots level and must demonstrate a major element of volunteer involvement in their programs. Grants range in size from $500 to $2,500 each.

Mid-Atlantic Regional Network Fellowship Program (MD, DC, VA)
The Environmental Leadership Program announces the launch of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Network Fellowship Program.  ELP's Regional Networks are innovative programs designed to build the capacity of promising emerging leaders in designated regions across the United States.  The Mid-Atlantic Regional Network will provide programming to individuals living or working in the Maryland, Virginia, and DC areas. Trailnet Active Living Awards (MO)
Trailnet's Active Living Awards celebrate the individuals and institutions of the St. Louis region who foster increased physical activity as a means to healthier living.  Trailnet is now accepting nominations for this prestigious distinction in three categories: Healthy Individuals, Healthy Communities, and Healthy Environments. Nomination forms are available on the Trailnet website. Completed forms should be faxed, emailed, or postmarked by July 18, 2008.  The award recipients will be announced at the 2008 Active Living Awards Party on Thursday September 25.

Southern Forests Network (Southeast)
The Southern Forests Network is seeking land trust partners to facilitate sustainable forest management. SFN has begun providing certification for family forestlands and small wood products facilities in the Southeast and seeks to work with any land trusts which wants to explore utilizing Forest Stewardship Council certification as a tool for ensuring sustainable management and monitoring on "working" forestlands. SFN is developing new resources for forest health monitoring and forest carbon sales; and has begun utilizing GIS to facilitate conservation planning for working forestlands. Northeast Utilities Offers Grants for Grassroots Environmental Projects (CT, MA, NH)
Deadline: October 15 and April 15
Provides grants through its Environmental Community Grant Program to fund local community and grassroots environmental projects that are frequently overlooked by large grant programs. The program provides grants of between $250 and $1,000 each to projects in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire.

Open Space Institute (NY)
Deadline: Always open
The Open Space Institute (OSI) protects scenic, recreational, historical and working landscapes to ensure public enjoyment, conserve habitats, and sustain community character. OSI’s New York Land Protection Program provides grants for land acquisition in the State of New York while OSI’s Conservation Finance Program offers low-cost bridge loans and grants for land protection in selected landscapes across the East Coast. OSI’s Conservation Institute works in partnership with conservation practitioners, funders and policy-makers to conduct, synthesize and disseminate research on important land conservation issues.

Chesapeake Bay Trust Grants Program (MD)
Deadline: Always open
A variety of grants are available. tThe trust's grant-making priorities are living-resource protection and restoration; stewardship and community engagement; sustainable land usage; vital habitat protection and restoration; and water-quality restoration and protection. Groups working in Maryland to restore and protect the Chesapeake Bay and its Maryland tributaries are eligible to apply.

Moloka’i Environmental Protection Fund (HI)
Deadline: Always open
Awards of up to $5,000 each will support organizations that protect the Hawaiian island's environment and enhance its community's access to legal services, education, and environmental advocacy.

Pacific Forest and Watershed Lands Stewardship Council Seeks Proposals for Youth Investment Programs (CA)
Deadline: Various
In 2008 the Stewardship Council will grant between a total of $2 million and $2.5 million in funding to improve the lives of underserved youth in northern and central California by providing greater access to outdoor experiences -- from urban parks in the city to watersheds in the wilderness. In 2008, there are four different grant rounds -- three rounds focused on outdoor and environmental education programs and one on building parks and playgrounds.

California Wildlands Grassroots Fund
Deadline: Always open
Applications for grants of up to $5,000 each from the California Wildlands Grassroots Fund for projects that protect and preserve ecosystems, plants, natural landscapes, wildlands, and wildlife in California.

More than $6 Million Available in Great Lakes
Deadline: Always open
Land trusts and public agencies in the eight-state Great Lakes basin can apply to The Conservation Fund for interim funding to purchase land or conservation easements to protect coastal and freshwater sites of high ecological significance. Shell Marine Habitat Program - Gulf of Mexico (AL, FL, LA, MS, TX)
Deadline: Preprosals due April 1 and September 1, Final proposals due June 1 and November 1
Grants from $50,000 to $200,000 each will support projects that protect and restore wetland habitats in and around the Gulf of Mexico. Priority will be given to projects that offer volunteer opportunities or education programs and to those that focus on preserving marine species native to the U.S. Southeast.

2008 Southeast Matching Grant Program
Deadline: None
The Land Trust Alliance's (the Alliance) Southeast Land Trust Matching Grants Program, since 2002 has provided over 90 cost share grants for land trusts' organizational development and strategic conservation planning projects. On anticipation of receiving additional financial resources, the Alliance Southeastern regional program extends its offer of matching grants-in-aid to more land trusts for 2008. We expect to be able to fund matching grants to 10-15 land trusts.

2008 Strategic Conservation Planning Grants Program
Deadline: February 19
If your land trust is ready to develop a strategic land conservation plan, or if you are ready to upgrade your current plan to help you accomplish your mission, consider applying for a 2008 Strategic Conservation Planning Grant.   This program provides grants of up to $10,000 for strategic conservation collaboration and planning projects that enable land trusts to protect and steward land more effectively.
