Easement Incentive On Hold as Jobs Bill Scaled Back
The draft jobs bill we discussed in Wednesday's alert has hit an unexpected snag, so we now need your help more than ever!
Extenders on Hold as Jobs Bill Trimmed Back – Time for Renewal of Easement Tax Incentive Unclear
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) announced plans yesterday to bring his own, scaled-down jobs creation legislation to the Senate floor February 22, despite the release earlier in the day of a larger bi-partisan package by Senate Finance Committee leaders Max Baucus (D-MT) and Charles Grassley (R-IA). That bill contained extensions of expiring tax laws, including the enhanced deduction for conservation easement donations and the IRA charitable rollover.
The Reid bill reportedly will not include extenders of expiring provisions. The problem this creates is that it is not at all clear when the Senate will take up the extenders bill.
The Senate is in recess next week, making it a great time to visit with your Senators or at least call and let them know that renewal of the enhanced easement incentive is important to your work. Tell them you are disappointed that the extension is not included in Senator Reid's jobs bill and urge them to pass an extension of the conservation easement tax incentive as soon as possible!
Find contact info for your Senator's nearest state office at www.senate.gov and ask about opportunities to meet and share your concerns.
