Sign 3 Letters Today to Save the Easement Incentive & Charitable Deduction
We hope you'll join the Alliance today in signing three simple letters to help protect the enhanced easement incentive and tax deduction for charitable contributions that are so critical to your work.
Sign the Tax Extenders Letter - Deadline Noon Monday
Update: This first letter is now closed and the sign-up form has been removed.
Congress is running out of time to extend the enhanced easement incentive, IRA charitable rollover, S-corporation donation incentive, and other temporary tax provisions that are slated to expire on December 31, 2011. While we're still working hard to make the incentive permanent by gathering co-sponsors for H.R. 1964/S. 339, we also need your help building support for a broad "extenders package" that would extend these provisions for a year or two.
Please click here to join 1,250 other organizations and businesses on a broad letter urging Congress to pass an extenders package before the end of this year. The new deadline to sign is Noon eastern on Monday, November 7.
Sign 2 Letters to Protect the Charitable Deduction - Deadline Saturday
Update: The National Council of Nonprofits has sent its grassroots letters to super-committee leaders, but you can still add your name to the list, which may prove useful in other contexts. The Independent Sector letter remains open for signatures.
A common ingredient of many recent deficit reduction proposals has been some kind of limitation on itemized deductions, including the deduction for charitable contributions. While we blocked the President's proposal to cap the effective benefit of deductions, others have proposed more radical alternatives that might not work for non-cash contributions at all.
The deficit reduction super-committee is moving extremely quickly and may propose significant changes with a limited appreciation for their impact on nonprofit organizations. Tomorrow, the National Council of Nonprofits will be sending a grassroots letter to members of the super-committee urging them to reject proposals that would reduce or cap the value of deductions for charitable contributions. Nearly 4,000 organizations have already signed on! Add your organization today at: www.givevoice.org/sign-on.
The broader Independent Sector letter to President Obama and Congressional leaders (which we've shared in several past alerts) also remains open for signatures. If you haven't already, we encourage you to sign today. You'll also find a suite of sample outreach materials and other resources at: www.independentsector.org/charitable_deduction.
Thanks for helping!
