GIS Grant Review Workgroup
Purpose: This group is charged with developing guidelines and reviewing project proposals submitted for MCPI GIS Grants , for recommendation to the Steering Committee for their final review and decision.
History: This workgroup was formed in May 2005, and is expected to be active at least throughout this year.
To guide the development of the grants program, members of this workgroup coordinated a Web-based questionnaire to the 47 coastal trusts in Maine to achieve several goals: to generate a baseline understanding of existing geographic information system (GIS) capacity and the utility of GIS technologies in conservation activities; to assess the land trust community’s desire to build on their current GIS skills; and to identify methods for MCPI to increase land trusts’ access to and effective use of GIS technologies to support conservation and stewardship activities. The results of this GIS Needs Assessment are availble here.
