Sea Green Turtles, Peregrine Falcons and Piping Plovers Homes’ Protected on Masonboro Island

For now, Masonboro Island, home to threatened and endangered species such as loggerhead sea turtles, sea green turtles, peregrine falcons, piping plovers, and seabeach amaranth, is an exquisite example of an undeveloped sanctuary. The North Carolina Coastal Land Trust has made great strides to protect the Masonboro’s pristine beaches from future development. After its acquisition of the 23-acre McMillan property on the southern tip of the island, the largest privately-held parcel of land left on Masonboro Island will be under permanent protection.
