With over 175 people in attendance, representing all 12 states in our region, the 2011 Southeast Land Conservation Conference was an exciting reunion of conservation practitioners and professionals dedicated to protecting the rich forests, watersheds, rural areas and landscapes of the Southeastern U.S.  For two days, friends and colleagues participated in field trips, networking sessions and 16 conservation workshops and roundtables, providing new ideas and understanding for the work we do.  In the midst of these challenging economic times, we are inspired by your hard work and commitment.  Thank you for sharing your experience and wisdom with us, and your colleagues at the Southeast Conference.

Chattanooga’s gracious land trust hosts provided inspiring stories of renaissance along the Tennessee River and conservation partnerships to protect important lands.  Stringer’s Ridge, a jewel of a natural sanctuary minutes from downtown was the scene for the hikers among us, and biking along the Tennessee Riverwalk provided an experience of urban living pressed up against the natural world of marshlands, creeks and wildlife.

Special thanks to Bruz Clark of the Lyndhurst Foundation for his musical performance and captivating presentation on The Chattanooga Story: Ruminants, Riverboats, Rivets and Renaissance.

Thanks also to David Crockett of the Chattanooga Office of Sustainability for his inspiring story, Using Green Infrastructure as the Organizing Strategy of Cities and Regions.
