2013 National Land Trust Advocacy Day – New York Land Trusts Storm Capitol Hill

Land trusts converged on Capitol Hill last week to educate and engage political leaders on conservation issues during the Alliance’s 2nd annual Land Trust Advocacy Day.  Land conservation leaders attended issue briefings and networking events before conducting over 150 individual meetings with key members of Congress in the Senate and House, including virtually the entire New York delegation. Many thanks to the New York land trust representatives who took time to join us in Washington! Read our full press release.

How We Help

The Land Trust Alliance works with land trusts and local communities throughout the Northeast to provide a host of tools, training, support and inspiration to ensure their success in protecting the air we breathe, water we drink and food we eat.

Accreditation Preparation: we provide coaching services, and occasionally funding, to help land trusts prepare for the land trust accreditation process.

Standards & Practices Assessments: we periodically provide staff and/or funding to work with land trusts on completing an assessment of their effectiveness implementing Land Trust Standards and Practices. The assessment process identifies areas for improvement and working together with either Alliance staff or a consultant a plan is developed to pursue full implementation of Land Trust Standards and Practices.

Information & Training: we provide a wealth of information via The Learning Center (available to Land Trust Alliance member organizations and their staff, board, and volunteers) to land trusts addressing all facets of operating a successful nonprofit and meeting their land conservation mission.; and often working with our state association partners support workshops and webinars based on the Alliance’s Land Trust Standards & Practices curriculum.

Mentoring/ Coaching: we provide tailored, in-depth one-on-one support to assist land trusts in organizational planning, critical staff or board transitions, leadership development, strategic conservation planning, and other organizational development needs.

Leadership Development: working with our national education team we periodically offer current and emerging leaders training, opportunities to connect with peers, and multi-day retreats to help strengthen their leadership skills.
