Executive Director, Georgian Bay Land Trust

Position: Executive Director Reports to: Chairman, Board of Directors
Location: Toronto, with frequent travel to the Georgian Bay-North Channel region

The Georgian Bay Land Trust (GBLT) is a fast paced charitable organization seeking a dynamic and energetic leader for the position of Executive Director (ED). The ED serves as a leader for the organization, working closely with the Board to set the strategic direction of the organization and working with the staff to ensure the successful implementation of that strategic direction through annual operating plans, budgeting, and program management. The ED is the face of the GBLT, taking a leadership role in relationship development and management with volunteers, supporters and partners.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Chairman and the Board to set strategic direction and lead the development and oversight of annual plans, budgets and program plans to support the successful achievement of long term goals and the GBLT’s 20 year vision
  • Work with the Board and staff to develop and maintain fundraising support to ensure long-term stability
  • Take a lead role in delivery and oversight of the vision, strategic plan, program plans, financial management, and annual operating plans
  • Lead the organization in developing, managing and supporting partnerships with like-minded organizations, community groups and agencies
  • Work with staff to develop and maintain enduring relationships with key volunteers and supporters
  • Serve as a spokesperson for the organization, with the objective to raise awareness of the organization and its work
  • Build, manage, support, and lead a cohesive team of staff that works together to implement the programs and priority activities of the organization as defined by the Strategic and Annual Operating Plans


Skills and Aptitude:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree and five to ten years of experience as a manager, preferably in a not-for-profit environment, with a solid understanding of land conservation and fundraising
  • Effective management and leadership skills, a proven capacity for strategic and operational planning, and strong financial management experience
  • Experience in successful fundraising and effective policy and program development
  • Strong communication and consultation skills, one-on-one and with groups
  • An ability to build effective relationships with volunteers, staff, partners, and the general public, and to develop trust and to connect with stakeholders to build long lasting relationships;
  • Strong presentation skills, both verbal and written, including an ability to inspire and persuade
  • An ability to be highly motivated, creative and a self-starter
