2010 National Land Trust Census - Coming Soon!
Your work counts, so make sure it’s counted! The Land Trust Alliance has reported on the status and successes of land trusts since its founding in 1982, and we will be conducting the next National Land Trust Census in January of 2011. Your prompt participation in the Census will be key! As the land trust movement continues to grow and attract greater attention from the media and the general public, tracking and reporting on the impact of land trusts is critical for gaining even more public support for land trusts and land conservation.
We will be providing more information to land trusts in e-mail and regular mail in January – so keep an eye out! In the meantime, if you have any questions, please e-mail census@lta.org, or call 202-638-4725.
Census Frequently Asked Questions
The National Land Trust Census, a comprehensive profile of the land trust movement and its land protection activities, generally receives considerable media attention and is widely quoted in newspapers and in research and technical journals. The New York Times ran a story about the 2000 Land Trust Census on page B1, with a color picture - and this was on September 12, 2001.
It has been used by land trusts to help you tell your stories to local audiences within a national context. The Alliance will produce template articles that each land trust can adapt and use locally to demonstrate their role in a larger U.S. effort. Census information also helps the Alliance inform you about issues and trends that affect your own land trust’s conservation activities.
We recognize that your time is valuable. We expect this form to take approximately 45-60 minutes to fill out, depending on the size and sophistication of your land trust. If you have completed the Census previously, this year's Web form will have some of the answers pre-filled for your convenience. We are urging all land trusts to use the Web form because it is more accurate and less expensive to submit data electronically than to print, mail, and transcribe data to and from paper.
Thank you in advance for taking the time to complete the questionnaire and to help us to capture and disseminate the exciting story of land conservation in the United States!
