Leadership Services Manager

Under the supervision of the Vice President and working closely with a team of senior managers, board members, development and communications departments, the Leadership Services Manager is responsible for strengthening the effectiveness of land trust board members throughout the country; building relationships between the Land Trust Alliance and land trust board members and executive directors; coordinating the Land Trust Board Engagement Task Force; and managing the relationships with leadership donors who contribute or have the potential to make a commitment in the $1,000 - $4,999 range. The Leadership Services Manager manages the Development Assistant and is responsible for increasing the visibility, efficiency, and effectiveness of the Alliance’s individual membership program of donors who give in the $1-$999 range.    

 

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Vice President, Alliance Board and the Land Trust Board Engagement Taskforce to develop and implement a comprehensive, multi-year plan to improve the effectiveness of land trust boards and to strengthen relationships with land trust board members.
  • Develop and implement training, publications, conferences and other services for land trust board members.
  • Work with the Training & Conferences Department and regional offices to coordinate training events for land trust board members. Integrate Alliance training opportunities with the individual membership program. Manage the annual development directors’ forum, land trust board member summit, and member events at our national and regional conferences.
  • Proactively cultivate, solicit, and upgrade donors and prospects into the Guardians of the Land Society ($1,000+) and manage a portfolio of donors within the $1,000-$4,999 range.
  • Manage a volunteer force of partners and program staff to advance the Land Trust Board Challenge, a program to engage the 15,000+ land trust board members nationwide. 
  • Set overall strategy for the acquisition, renewal, upgrading, cultivation, and stewardship of individual members giving in the $1-$999 categories
  • Manage a wide array of web-based communications, including our on-line giving strategy, a listserv for development professionals of land trusts, and the philanthropic portion of our E-newsletter.
  • Create a wide range of written communications, including direct mail letters, reports, proposals, ads, articles and profiles for the Alliance magazine, event signage and materials.
  • Manage the iMIS database as pertains to all donors up to the $5,000 level and land trust leadership community, ensuring data is up-to-date, and providing reports and analysis, forecasting, budgeting and other data as needed.
  • Assist in developing the fundraising and board development content for Rally, Saving Land, the Learning Center and other material as needed.
  • Conduct donor research and prepare donor and prospect briefing profiles for senior staff solicitors.
  • Manage the Development Associate, contractors, consultants, interns and volunteers as necessary.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of five years’ Development experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven record managing membership systems designed to raise gifts from individuals.
  • Ability to cultivate and steward relationships with donors.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience working with Senior Management and Board members.
  • Ability to work effectively without daily supervision and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work quickly, meet deadlines, and multi-task.
  • Organization and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to travel for occasional events and other functions.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule including occasional weekends.
  • Experienced with prospect research.
  • Computer proficiency, especially with Microsoft Office and database programs.
  • Understanding of the Land Trust Alliance and its programs.
  • Knowledge of private land conservation techniques and/or land trusts a plus.
